Around 50% of all energy consumed in the country is renewable. In electrical generation, the rate rises to 88% from renewable sources, such as hydroelectric, wind and solar.
These factors make Brazil a global powerhouse in energy sustainability and highlight the importance of the sector for the country’s economic development.
Therefore, the topic is on the agenda of the Eloos Project, from Rádio Itatiaia in partnership with CNN Brazil.
On Monday (24), authorities, businesspeople and experts will meet in Belo Horizonte to discuss the challenges and future trends in the energy sector.
João Vitor Xavier, vice-president of operations at Itatiaia, highlights that the project is deeper than the day of the debate itself.
“It is an opportunity for the main names in each area, from each sector to discuss, connect, listen to society and delve deeper into a fundamental topic. It is good to highlight that Eloos is not just the day of the panel and the day of the event, it is a two-month discussion, delving deeper into the subject, provoking the sectors so that they can express themselves and ending in a large meeting on this topic with the main stakeholders sector”, he explains.
The opening of the event will be made by the president of Petrobras, Magda Chambriard, who will bring the state-owned company’s vision on the Brazilian energy sector scenario.
One of the expected themes is the idea of “energy addition”, defended by Chambriard: it is about not simply replacing fossil sources, but adding new sources to meet growing demand.
The president states that Petrobras needs to “deliver between 55% and 60% more energy by 2050” to fulfill its growth ambition.
Among other guests, the panels will include the participation of the minister of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), as well as executives from the sector.
The CEO of Norsk Hydro Brasil, Anderson Baranov, also participates in the discussion tables. Coming straight from COP30, Baranov reinforces how essential it is to include sustainability and concern about climate change in the debate.
“I think there has been a lot of progress in this part of the climate concern. Companies having a similar discourse on decarbonization, for example, on the sustainability and innovation side. I see that we are in the early stages of returning to a time where dialogue will prevail”, indicates Baranov.
At Eloos, participants will debate how public policy and the legal environment can encourage greater contributions to the electricity sector, including generation, transmission, storage and renewable initiatives.
The idea of the event is to connect politicians, entrepreneurs in the renewable sector and regulators, seeking to outline strategies for a more sustainable and competitive energy Brazil.
“Itatiaia is carrying out Eloos with the public sector, the private sector, which is a pillar of society along with all the interests that involve development in the state […] to discuss this topic that is so important for Brazil and Minas Gerais”, points out Bruno Costa Bianchini, Vice President of Commercial and Marketing at Itatiaia.
“Minas Gerais’ leading role in the energy issue is of fundamental importance. Both the event and the space we have given to the segment to address the most important topics”, he concludes.
A CNN Brazil will be present with the CNN Castits special coverage of major events, interviewing panelists and authorities in a glass studio.
The Eloos Project will be broadcast live on Itatiaia’s YouTube and CNN Money’s YouTube.
