Formula 1: Norris secures pole at the Las Vegas GP; Bortoleto starts 18th

Lando Norris took pole position at the Las Vegas GP in qualifying marked by heavy rain.

The British driver from McLaren clocked 1min47s934 in Q3, taking advantage of the best time on the track with intermediate tires and securing the position of honor on the grid. Max Verstappen starts second, followed by Carlos Sainz. Oscar Piastri starts in fifth.

The session started in extremely adverse conditions, requiring the use of extreme wet tires in Q1. Even so, the drivers suffered from deleted laps and poor visibility, amid the intense spray raised by the cars.

Lewis Hamilton had a disastrous afternoon and was eliminated in the first part of the classification, while George Russell led Q1 and Q2, but was unable to repeat his performance in Q3.

In Q2, Oscar Piastri narrowly advanced, guaranteeing a place in Q3 with just 0s013 ahead of Pierre Gasly.

Gabriel Bortoleto, who appeared at the beginning of the session, ended up eliminated in Q1 after facing difficulties with the volume of water on the track. The Brazilian will start in 18th.

The final phase had unexpected moments, with Carlos Sainz and Isack Hadjar forming an unlikely provisional front row. Piastri took the lead, but the track evolved quickly and Norris came up with a clean and decisive lap to secure pole. Verstappen also improved at the end and secured a place on the front row.
