European powers and the US will meet in Geneva to discuss a controversial peace plan for Ukraine. The proposal includes significant concessions that raise concerns in Kyiv.
Representatives of the European powers will discuss the American peace plan for Ukraine with representatives of the United States and Ukraine in Geneva on Sunday. Sources from the German government announced this to the DPA agency on Saturday. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, has already announced the negotiations in Switzerland.
The AFP agency informs that representatives of Britain, France, Germany and the United States will meet in Geneva, Switzerland on Sunday. According to CNN, a US official said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff will attend the meeting.
US President Donald Trump gave Ukraine until Thursday (November 27) to accept the peace proposal. This 28-point proposal, the text of which has since been published by several world media, was received by the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Thursday.
The decision will be difficult
The DPA notes that the plan has caused concern for Ukraine and its European partners. The proposal assumes, among other things, that Ukraine will cede the entire Donbas to Russia and undertakes that its army will have a maximum of 600,000 members and that it will never join NATO. On Saturday, Zelensky’s office published a presidential decree in which he appointed a delegation for negotiations with American representatives, representatives of Russia and other international partners. The nine-member Ukrainian delegation will be led by the head of the presidential office Andriy Jermak.
Zelenskyy said on Friday that the next week will be very difficult for Kyiv, as Ukraine is faced with the decision of whether to lose its dignity under the American peace plan or risk losing its key partner – the United States. DPA states that without the support of the USA, which provides military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine, the ongoing war would be much more difficult for Ukraine.
