Luiz Marinho, Minister of Labor, Paulo Pimenta and José Guimarães posted comments on social media; “historic moment”, says Government leader in the Chamber

Government officials woke up this Saturday (22.Nov.2025) celebrating the preventive arrest of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), completed at around 6 am. The arrest order was given by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court). Here is it (PDF – 295 KB).

The determination is not to begin serving the sentence of 27 years and 3 months in prison for conviction in the attempted coup d’état case, but a precautionary measure. The former president, who has been under house arrest since August 4, is now at the Federal Police Superintendency, in a special room.

“The ineligible man was arrested this morning by @policiafederal. He allegedly tried to break his ankle bracelet in the early hours of this Saturday, indicating an attempt to escape. Justice being done – to the thousands who lost their lives in the pandemic and to Brazilian democracy”wrote Luiz Marinho, Minister of Labor and Employment.

“The decision was taken based on guaranteeing public order and determines that he remains detained while investigations progress. The country is going through a historic moment. Whoever attacked democracy will pay for it!”wrote the leader of the Government in the Chamber of Deputies, José Guimarães (PT-CE).
