It's better not to buy such scented candles. They are very harmful to health

Fall and winter season This is the period when we want our homes to be warm and cozy. Various elements and decorations, such as blankets, pillows and candlesticks, help us with this.

However, it is worth paying special attention to the candles you buy, as they may look nice but also emit harmful substances. We explain what to watch out for and why.

Scented candles most often they have a decorative function. They look elegant and smell wonderful, and after lighting the wick, they gradually dissolve, releasing specific aromas.

The base of the candle is wax, but they can be natural (e.g. soy), but paraffin candles are more common. The pleasant view of the flame spreading around the room can create a cozy atmosphere in the interior.

However, it is worth paying attention to the products we buy. They may not be indifferent to our health.

Scented candles may contain various toxic compounds that, when lit, will be released into the air we breathe. These include, for example, toluene, formaldehyde and benzene, which may have a negative impact on health if we come into contact with them for a long time.

Toxic compounds are released by paraffin because it is obtained from crude oil. Therefore, not only inhaling the vapors, but even holding the candle may be harmful. Allergy sufferers or people with sensitive skin may feel it strongly on its surface.

Inhalation of harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) may cause respiratory problems, as well as headaches and dizziness. Candles may also contain synthetic fragrances, including: phthalateswhich in turn may negatively affect, among others, the hormonal system and cause allergic reactions.

Synthetic dyes and other chemical additives may also be harmful to health. Inconspicuous candles may therefore increase the risk of brain or lung damage with long-term exposure.

Candles it is a safer alternative to other scented candles. Most often, they are made of soy, beeswax or rapeseed wax and contain natural essential oils instead of synthetic ones.

So if we want to enjoy the beauty of lit candles as well as pleasant aromas at home in the fall and winter season, it is worth choosing natural candles. For safety, it is always best to air the room after using the candle.
