Mystery surrounding the death of Sérgio Caetano. A second person, a member of the same group, is missing.

SL Benfica’s cheerleader, Diabos Vermelhos, was found dead this Friday inside a vehicle parked near the Estádio da Luz, in Lisbon.

A firearm was next to the body of Sergio Caetano. The leader of the Devils died from a gunshot to the head.

The PSP was called to the scene and investigations took place throughout the night with the PJ, activated due to suspicions of murder. The initial alert came from a member of the public.

A second person, a member of the cheerleading squad, is missing, CMTV reported.

The family was the first to alert the authorities to the disappearance of Sérgio Caetano, who went to take his son to school on Friday and was never seen again. On Friday night, he was found dead.

Benfica has already reacted officially to the death of the “unavoidable figure in the Benfica universe”.

“His unwavering dedication to the club remains an indelible mark in the history of support for Benfica, in the most different stadiums and pavilions, in Portugal and across borders”, reads the red note.

The Diabos Vermelhos cheerleading squad, founded in 1982, does not have official support from the club.

A division within the group led in 1990 to the creation of the No Name Boys, today the largest support group organized for Sport Lisboa and Benfica.
