Map of the path is left out of the final text of COP30, says Corrêa do Lago

The “road map”, Brazil’s proposal for ending dependence on fossil fuels in the world, will not be included in the final COP30 letter. The information was confirmed by the president of the 30th edition of the Climate Conference, André Corrêa do Lago.

“The roadmap, we are going to announce, will be an initiative of the Brazilian presidency. It is not in the text”, said the ambassador this Saturday morning (22) on the Amazon Vox website, in the corridors of the Blue Zone.

The Brazilian proposal had the support of more than 80 countries, but faces significant resistance from oil-producing nations, especially Saudi Arabia. The argument is that any mention of fossil fuels could compromise the economic development of several nations that produce and depend on the commodity.

High-ranking negotiators spent the night discussing the main points to reach a final consensus. After hours of debate, the presidency of the Climate Conference scheduled closing plenary sessions for 10am.

“I think we will have the approval of many documents, around 10:30 am. It is a result of getting 195 countries to agree with the number of documents that we approved…it was very good, the countries collaborated a lot”, stated Corrêa do Lago.
