The President of the Republic was received by Princes Albert II and Charlene at the Prince’s Palace and inaugurated the bust of King D. Carlos, symbol of historical link between the two countries.
The defense of the oceans is the theme that marks Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa’s state visit to Monaco, in what is the first visit by a Portuguese head of state to the principality.
The only day of the official visit was also marked by the signing of bilateral agreements in several areas. In addition to the environment, Portugal and Monaco are committed to increasing partnership in trade, economy and science.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa began the day by being received by Princes Albert II and Charlene with the usual military honors, at the Prince’s Palace.
The two heads of state also went on foot to a garden close to the palace to jointly inaugurate the bust of King D. Carlos, the former Portuguese monarch, who he shared with Prince Albert I, great-great-grandfather of the current monarch of Monaco. They had in common a passion for the oceans which, more than a century later, continues to mark the connection between the two countries.
