The former first lady thanked the prayers for her husband and said this Saturday (22) that she trusts in “God’s Justice”, after the former president () .
“I trust in God’s Justice. Human justice, as we have seen, is not sustainable. But I know that the Lord will provide an Escape, just as he did in 2018, when my husband was the victim of a stab wound (…). I will not let him give up on the purpose that the Lord entrusted to him”, she said.
She was in Fortaleza, Ceará, at the time the former president was preventively arrested in Brasília. She would participate in a PL Mulher event the day before.
After her husband’s arrest, she published a biblical passage on her Instagram this morning. “My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth. (…) The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will guard your soul.”
The former president faces the final stretch of the coup plot trial, for which he was sentenced to 27 years and three months in prison. He was taken to the PF Superintendence, where he will be detained.
Federal deputy Helio Lopes (PL-RJ), a close ally of the former president, went to the place where Bolsonaro is being held this morning. He told journalists that he was praying in front of Bolsonaro’s condominium this morning, when he saw Federal Police cars enter the place.
Lopes stated that he has been saying prayers in front of the condominium since the house arrest of the former chief executive was ordered in August.
“I go there every day, there’s no schedule. Sometimes it’s 7am, 8am, midnight, 1am [da madrugada]. It was there at five o’clock in the morning and the PF train passed by, they entered the condominium to collect. I saw when he collected it”, he stated. He then followed the convoy to the PF regional superintendence, where Bolsonaro is being held.
The deputy criticized the arrest, stating that Bolsonaro was not in Brazil on January 8 and, therefore, had no involvement with what happened in Brasília.
“A citizen is in prison without committing a crime, on January 8th he wasn’t here, he was in the USA, there’s nothing, nothing that puts Bolsonaro within the January 8th event.”
“Se [a prisão] that’s why [convocação da vigília] scares me even more. As an evangelical Christian, I understand that they are in a very strong spiritual struggle. Because of a vigil? Prayer? Praying doesn’t hurt anyone,” he said.
The parliamentarian also says that he does not know whether other allies of the former president should appear at the superintendence to monitor the case.
