Student representation
The falling out between Gras and VSStÖ at the University of Vienna once again raises the question of how far the university student body’s commitment should go. What speaks for and against a broad mandate
The protests against Israel’s military actions in the Gaza Strip began at universities, for example here on the campus of the University of Vienna in the Old General Hospital. The topic also comes up again and again within the Austrian Student Union.
The red-green coalition in the university representation at the University of Vienna is over. Because of an issue that extends far beyond the borders of the country’s largest university: dealing with anti-Semitism in the wake of the Gaza war. The Association of Socialist Students (VSStÖ) does not adequately differentiate itself from anti-Semitic positions, criticized the Greens and Alternative Students (Gras). The red faction rejects the allegations.
