Tragedy in a coal mine: One miner died, two remained trapped underground

An accident at a coal mine in the Spanish region of Asturias claimed the life of one miner and trapped two others underground on Friday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

In a statement, emergency services said they were alerted to a “ground collapse” in the area of ​​the Vega de Rengos estate, about 1.5 kilometers from the mine entrance. “There are three miners who cannot be contacted,” the rescuers said.

A few minutes later on the X social network they announced that “they found the lifeless body of one of the miners caught in this afternoon’s accident”. “You cannot imagine the pain and despair I feel,” Asturias Prime Minister Adrián Barbón wrote on social networks. The accident happened in the anthracite mine of TYC Narcea Special Research.

During an explosion in a coal mine in Asturias in March of this year five people were killed and four others were injured. The region is an important mining area in Spain with large coal reserves.
