That of the former president () took allies by surprise, making it difficult for the politician’s electorate to mobilize further against that of the minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) this Saturday (22). The first reaction of the group closest to the former president was to resort to religious discourses to try to give cohesion to the Bolsonarist portion of the population.
Supporters of the former president, where Bolsonaro was taken in the morning. They were also present at night at a vigil organized by the politician’s eldest son, the senator (PL-RJ). The total audience was a few hundred people.
Upon arriving at the vigil, Flávio said that it was not a political act, but a religious meeting. “We will pray for my father’s health, for justice, to bring lucidity to the authorities of this country so as not to criminalize a simple vigil”, declared the senator.
As one of the reasons for the arrest of Jair Bolsonaro, who was already detained at home also by court decision. Throughout Saturday, the senator reinforced the publicity of the act on social media.
(PL), Flávio’s brother and councilor in Rio de Janeiro, also attended the vigil. In addition to them, politicians such as the senator and deputies Helio Lopes (PL-RJ) and Bia Kicis (PL-DF). The deputies (Novo-RS) and (PL-RJ) arrived late because it was early in the day.
Sóstenes, who is also leader of the PL, stated that the pro-Bolsonaro popular mobilization is not greater out of fear.
“People are scared, otherwise everything would be at the PF’s door, just like what was done with the PF. They don’t do it because they are sure that if they go there they will be arrested. That is how the dictator Alexandre de Moraes works to intimidate the people”, declared the deputy.
The mention of the president (PT) is because, in 2018, under strong protests from his supporters. PT groups held a vigil next to the place where he was detained, in Curitiba, throughout his prison term.
The pro-Bolsonaro vigil was held a few hundred meters from the door of the condominium where the former president lives. There was a small electric trio, but none of the politicians present came up to speak. Everyone spoke from the floor, alongside supporters, and the equipment only amplified voices and played religious songs.
The event began at 7:15 pm, and the politicians left around 8:30 pm. A pastor who presented himself to give religious speeches criticized Bolsonaro, defending his conviction, and was attacked. He left the place protected by the police.
In front of the PF, the act was smaller. Some Bolsonaristas wore green and yellow and carried Brazilian and United States flags. They asked drivers to honk their horns in favor of Bolsonaro – a method also used at the vigil.
There was friction between Bolsonaristas and Lulistas in the area throughout the day. By 9pm, the demonstration had cooled down and gathered 20 people.
