It took 13 hours and 40 minutes between the vigil called by Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and the arrival of the former president at the Federal Police Superintendence
Jair Bolsonaro’s preventive detention, carried out this Saturday morning (22), was the result of a sequence of episodes that, within a few hours, led Minister Alexandre de Moraes to order the former president’s detention. Below, see the complete chronology of the events that culminated in the Federal Police operation — from the call for a vigil for his son Flávio Bolsonaro to Bolsonaro’s arrival at the PF Superintendence, in Brasília.
Friday, 5pm — Flávio Bolsonaro calls for vigil
Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) calls, via social media, for a vigil in front of the condominium where the former president was under house arrest. The PF assessed that the act could create a risk for agents and protesters.

Faced with the possibility of the vigil “taking serious proportions”, the Federal Police asked Minister Alexandre de Moraes for a preventive arrest order to guarantee public order.
Saturday, 0:00 am — Ankle bracelet violation is recorded
The body responsible for electronic monitoring records an incident of violation of Bolsonaro’s ankle bracelet, reinforcing the suspicion of a risk of escape highlighted by the STF.

On September 11, Bolsonaro had been sentenced by the First Panel of the STF to 27 years and three months in prison for the crimes of attempted coup d’état, armed criminal organization and violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law. The decision, however, has not yet become final — and the preventive detention ordered this Saturday does not mark the beginning of serving the sentencebut rather a precautionary measure.
On the eve of his arrest, the defense had requested that Bolsonaro could serve his eventual sentence at home due to his state of health, stating that he would be “profoundly weakened”. The request reached Moraes hours before the vigil called by Flávio Bolsonaro.
