Commission analyzes amnesty for Reinaldo, from Atlético-MG – 11/22/2025 – Panel

On December 2nd, A will analyze a request made by former striker Reinaldo, Brazil’s top scorer, who claims to have been persecuted by the military during the dictatorship in Brazil.

Reinaldo celebrated his goals, a black political and social organization founded in California in the late 1960s.

The player claims that the gesture, which was used to protest against racism, also represented a demonstration against the military dictatorship.

Because of his stance, he says he was prevented from playing in the final of the 1977 Brazilian Championship against São Paulo, in an arrangement that would involve the military and the CBD (Brazilian Sports Confederation). That year, he already publicly defended direct elections and the end of the military dictatorship.

The top scorer also repeated the gesture in the 1978 World Cup. Previously, the dictator Ernesto Geisel had told him, at the Rio Grande do Sul government headquarters, to play ball. “Let us do the politics,” he said. The alert didn’t work.
