Fico assures that the protection of whistleblowers does not change: The new office is only supposed to expand its competences

According to Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), nothing has changed at the level of protection for whistleblowers of anti-social activity. He announced this in a video on the social network. He was reacting to the bill that was approved by the government on Saturday. It is to establish a new central Office for the Protection of Victims of Crimes and Whistleblowers of Anti-Social Activities.

  • A new office for the protection of victims of crimes will be established.
  • Prime Minister Fico proposed the dismissal of Deputy Prime Minister Petr Kmec.
  • There will be no compromise when changing the constitution on Slovakia’s value issues.
  • The Prime Minister presented a proposal for solving the Ukrainian crisis to the Slovak government.
  • Valová resigned from the parliament for serious personal reasons.

“We are only proposing to change the structure of the office and add additional competences in the area of protection of victims of crimes,” stated Fico, saying that the Saturday meeting of the government cabinet was because they need to get some more bills to the parliament on Tuesday (November 25). “I will not be physically present here on Monday (November 24),” announced the prime minister. As he specified, he is flying to Angola “for a detour” to the European Union – Africa summit. He will be back in Bratislava on Tuesday.

Fico declared in the video that he feels the nervousness of the coalition partners. “I am trying to understand this nervousness in Hlas and the Slovak National Party…,” stated. Passivity in the political battle with the opposition, as he claims, unnecessarily weakens the coalition. According to the Prime Minister, the government coalition as a whole did not even use November 17 to “slap the opposition”.

He also commented on Petr Kmec (Voice-SD), whom the Prime Minister proposed to remove from the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic for the recovery plan and the knowledge economy. Kmec’s resignation was accepted this week by Slovak President Peter Pellegrini. “I’m not a political butcher. I check the facts before any serious personnel decision, I don’t act on the basis of media pressure or a bubble or to please someone,” declared Fico. According to his words, he will do the same with Miroslav Lajčák, who will be decided on whether he will end up as advisor to the Prime Minister on Wednesday (November 26).

In connection with the European Commission’s infringement process against Slovakia for the amendment to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic, he repeated that no compromise is possible. “Changing the constitution in matters of value is a condition for Slovakia’s survival in a challenging geopolitical situation,” Fico said. He called it excellent news that all those involved are seriously considering the peace plan for the war in Ukraine from the workshop of US President Donald Trump. “I already personally supported him yesterday, today I presented a similar draft resolution at the government meeting, which was approved,” added the prime minister.

He announced that on Wednesday (November 26) there will be an exit meeting of the Slovak government for the districts of Svidník, Stropkov and Medzilaborce in the Prešov Region. “We have prepared about 50 tasks for ministers, as well as financial coverage for many projects in the cities and towns of these districts,” zoomed in. At the same time, he thanked for the work of Jane Vaľová (Smer-SD), who gave up her mandate as a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic. “Unfortunately, for serious personal reasons, she had to decide to stop her political career,” pointed out Fico.
