Flávio says that attempting to violate an ankle bracelet would be an “act of desperation”

Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) said that his father, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), may have violated the electronic ankle bracelet that had been imposed on him in an “act of desperation” amid family visits.

“He may have felt ashamed,” said Flávio on Saturday night (22), during a vigil in front of the condominium where his father was under house arrest – before being sent to preventive detention in a PF (Federal Police) room.

“He got angry and tried to touch the ankle bracelet,” he added. “[Jair Bolsonaro] I wasn’t thinking at any point [em fugir]. It’s impossible for that to happen. So much so that he changed his ankle bracelet”, he pondered.

This Saturday afternoon, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), removed the confidentiality of a video showing the damaged ankle bracelet.

In the background, it is possible to hear Bolsonaro telling a Seape-DF (DF Penitentiary Administration Secretariat) agent that he used a soldering iron on the equipment.

Bolsonaro also states in the video that he started applying a soldering iron to his ankle bracelet “in the late afternoon” of Friday (21).

Seape-DF report sent to the STF records that its monitoring center had generated an alert indicating “device violation” at 0:07 am this Saturday.

According to Seape, the equipment had “clear and important signs” of damage, with “burn marks” where the device was fitted and closed. Agents did not identify any damage to the ankle bracelet.

“The information confirms the condemned man’s intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his escape,” said Moraes in his decision.
