The military executed two arrest warrants, two home searches and two vehicle searches, on Wednesday, detaining the two suspects, in the municipality of Águeda.

The Aveiro Court ordered preventive detention for the mother and son, who were detained by the Republican National Guard on suspicion of drug trafficking in the central area.

The arrest is the culmination of an investigation that had been ongoing for around a year, for the crime of drug trafficking, said a statement from the Aveiro Territorial Command of the GNR, sent today.

According to the GNR, the suspects, mother and son, aged 52 and 36, “were dedicated to cocaine and heroin trafficking, operating in the municipalities of Águeda, Albergaria-a-Velha, Anadia, Oliveira do Bairro, Mealhada [distrito de Aveiro] and Oliveira de Frades [distrito de Viseu].

1,700 euros in cash and a precision digital scale were also seized.

The detainees were present at the Aveiro Judicial Court, and the coercive measure of preventive detention was applied to them.

The action was reinforced by military personnel from the Águeda Territorial Detachment, the Aveiro Intervention Detachment and the Public Order Intervention Group of the Intervention Unit, the press release states.
