At least five people were killed and 28 others were injured in Sunday’s Israeli attack on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced. TASR informs according to the report of the AFP agency.

The ministry specified that the target of the Israeli attack was a residential building in the south of Beirut and described the number of victims and wounded as “final”.
Meanwhile, the Iranian-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah confirmed that the Israeli airstrike on Beirut targeted one of its high-ranking commanders, but did not disclose his identity, writes AFP. The movement added that Israel had crossed “another red line” with this attack.
Israel itself stated that the target of the attack was the chief of general staff of Hezbollah.
Israel fired three rockets at the building
According to an AFP correspondent, the attack hit the third and fourth floors of a nine-story residential building in a densely populated neighborhood of Beirut. A crowd of people gathered in the street outside the stricken building and Lebanese soldiers were deployed to secure the site.
Lebanon’s official state news agency NNA said at least three rockets were fired at the building.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the attack, his office said. “A moment ago, in the heart of Beirut, the Israeli army (IDF) attacked the chief of staff of Hezbollah, who led the building and rearming of (this) terrorist organization,” the brief statement said, adding that Netanyahu “ordered the attack.”
Israel repeatedly attacks Lebanon
“Israel is determined to act to achieve its goals, everywhere and always,” the statement added, according to AFP.
Israel has repeatedly attacked neighboring Lebanon over the past week, with the military saying on Saturday it had hit Hezbollah military facilities.
