Changes are currently being prepared, which are expected to help bridge the differences of opinion and move closer to a solution that Ukraine and the US will agree to.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Sunday’s negotiations between the representatives of the US and Ukraine in Geneva, which related to ending the war in Ukraine, “the most productive and meaningful” in the peace process. The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andriy Jermak, considers them “very productive”. TASR informs about it with reference to Sky News television.
Rubio said that the US side will make “certain changes” to the peace plan, which will likely be based on Ukrainian proposals, according to Sky News.
Progress in negotiations
“We have achieved very good results based on proposals from all parties involved. Now we have gone through some of these items point by point. I think we have made good progress,” said the head of US diplomacy.
The negotiating teams will now deal with some of the proposals presented to them, according to Rubio. They are also preparing some changes in the hope that they will be able to soften the different positions and get closer to a solution that both Ukraine and the United States will be satisfied with.
Plan for the next meeting
Jermak said “very good progress has been made and we are moving towards a just and lasting peace. The Ukrainian people deserve this peace and want it more than anyone.” At the same time, he thanked the US and especially its President Donald Trump and his team “for their commitment to the cause of peace”.
Jermak announced that a second meeting will take place in Geneva on Sunday evening, at which the Ukrainian delegation will negotiate with representatives of Britain, Germany and France. He emphasized that the final decision regarding the peace plan will be taken by the presidents of Ukraine and the USA.
