First Panel of the STF judges Bolsonaro’s preventive detention this Monday

Former president is detained by the PF in Brasília after suspected escape attempts, ankle bracelet violation and use of crowds of supporters to escape surveillance

The defense announced that it will appeal the decision.

The First Class of will judge on Monday (24) the preventive detention of the former president . The trial will be virtual and will take place between 8 am and 8 pm.

The call is from the president of the collegiate, minister Flávio Dino. It will be an extraordinary virtual session in which, in addition to Dino, the ministers Carmen Lúcia and Cristiano Zanin.

The arrest ordered last Saturday needs to be analyzed by the First Panel, which is responsible for actions related to the coup plot. Meanwhile, the location of this measure needs to be decided.

Jair Bolsonaro was arrested in August for failing to comply with the precautionary measures imposed by Alexandre de Moraes.

In this Saturday’s order, the minister informs that the Integrated Monitoring Integration Center of the verified the violation of the electronic ankle monitor at 00:08 this Saturday, which would constitute an escape attempt “facilitated by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his son”.

The senator called a vigil on Friday night at the door of Jair Bolsonaro’s condominium. “Vigil for the health and freedom of Brazil”, but which, according to Alexandre de Moraes, would be to generate movement of people in the area and create an environment for escape.

Defense will appeal

Jair Bolsonaro’s defense claimed that the vigil was a prayer vigil and that religious freedom is provided for in the Constitution. The lawyers also reported that the former president’s health condition is delicate and that prison could put his life at risk. The defense warned that it will appeal the decision.
