Fleeing to the USA was to protect family

Rebeca Ramagem says she is the target of persecution; deputy was convicted in September by the STF for attempted coup

The federal deputy’s wife (PL-RJ), Rebeca Ramagem, published this Sunday (Nov 23, 2025) a text on social media after leaving the country to meet her husband, who was being investigated for fleeing to the United States. In September, the congressman was by the STF (Supreme Federal Court) to 16 years, 1 month and 15 days in prison for attempted coup.

In the message published on her profile, Rebeca states that she decided to travel to the North American country to protect her family, who she says is the target of “political persecution”.

“A week ago, I landed with my daughters in the USA with a single purpose: to protect my family. The protection of our daughters is and will always be our priority. Today, unfortunately, we do not find the guarantee of impartial justice in the country. We are victims of lawfare and have faced inhumane political persecution“, these.

In the post, the congressman’s wife also shared a video of the couple’s daughters meeting Ramagem at an airport in the USA – which suggests that the congressman was already in the North American country. He also stated that he maintains “hope of one day returning to Brazil”.

Watch (41s):

STF minister Alexandre de Moraes arrested Ramagem on Friday (Nov 21), after it became public that the deputy left the country.

During the investigation, the former director of Abin (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) was banned by Moraes from leaving the country and had to surrender all his passports. There is no public information that the documents were returned.

The PF (Federal Police) is investigating whether Ramagem crossed the border through Boa Vista (RR) in a car and, from a neighboring country, continued his journey to the United States.

CHAMBER WAS NOT INFORMED

The Chamber of Deputies was not informed about Ramagem’s departure from Brazil. He also declared that there was no authorization for the congressman to join an official mission abroad.

According to the House, Ramagem delivered medical certificates covering 2 periods: from September 9th to October 8th and from October 13th to December 12th, 2025. Despite this, the Chamber’s records show the deputy’s participation in votes during these intervals — including in an in-person session held in October.
