Floods in Vietnam leave more than 90 dead and at least 11 missing

The number of people killed in the floods hitting Vietnam following torrential rain reached 91 over the weekend, with at least 11 people missing, state broadcaster VTV reported on Monday (24).

The government estimates that the floods caused losses of around 8.98 trillion dong ($341 million) to the economy.

More than 235,000 homes were nearly flooded, Vietnam’s disaster agency said.

Authorities have started recovery work in the center of the country. VTV footage showed a helicopter sending emergency supplies to affected areas in Dak Lak province on Sunday (23).

Residents returned to their debris-covered homes, where they were seen collecting their belongings and sorting bags of rice damaged by the floods.

In Khanh Hoa province, people lined up to receive essential items such as food, bottled water and donated clothes.
