Government of RJ begins Operation Barricada Zero in five municipalities in the Metropolitan Region

The integrated action, which seeks to systematically remove the barricades installed by criminal organizations, takes place in Cidade de Deus, Duque de Caxias, Nova Iguaçu, Queimados and São Gonçalo

The State Government of began this Monday (24) the an integrated action that aims to systematically remove barricades installed by criminal organizations. According to the government, these blockades restrict residents’ right to come and go, hinder the arrival of essential services and compromise the work of security forces.

Coordinated by the Institutional Security Office, the operation brings together teams from the Military Police, Civil Police, State secretariats and city halls. The work mobilizes joint engineering, intelligence, infrastructure and public security actions.

The teams work today in in the West Zone of the capital, and also in Duque de Caxias (Mangueirinha), Nova Iguaçu (Grão Pará), Queimados (São Simão and Dom Bosco) and São Gonçalo (Jardim Catarina).

“This integrated action brings a very clear message to those who insist on interrupting residents’ right to come and go: we will no longer tolerate barricades being installed in Rio de Janeiro. And for those who dare to reinstall these obstacles, the response will be given accordingly, with operations by special units of the Civil and Military police”, stated Governor Cláudio Castro.

Operation Barricade Zero uses backhoes, breakers, dumpers, concrete trucks, torches, chainsaws and specialized technical teams to remove blockages.
