The leader of the PL in the Chamber, Sóstenes Cavalcante, stated that Hugo Motta “has an agreement to vote for amnesty” related to the events of January 8th. In an interview with CNN Behind the ScenesCavalcante recalled the approval of the urgency of the amnesty project.
“When we decided to support the candidacy of President Davi Alcolumbre, personally, Jair Bolsonaro discussed with both presidential candidates that we only had two commitments, that the vice-presidents of the houses would be from the PL, and the PL’s vote on amnesty”, said Cavalcante: “As leader of the PL in the Chamber, since February, I only had a single agenda and I only asked President Hugo Motta to guide the amnesty”.
Combined with Bolsonaro
Recalling when the president of the Chamber highlighted the urgency of amnesty in September, Sóstenes Cavalcante states that “he had said, since March, that we were going to have 309 votes, and we had 311”. The deputy also says that he will not give up and will not have a requested agenda other than the amnesty.
“We only have to vote on the amnesty now, depending on a single person: President Hugo Motta”, points out the politician: “I can’t make the decision for him, but, unfortunately, apparently, the year will end and President Hugo Motta will not fulfill the agreement he reached with the president, who is now in prison, awaiting the fulfillment of a commitment from President Hugo Motta and President Davi Alcolumbre”.
He acknowledged that he requested exceptions on two occasions: to support the suspension of the proceedings against deputy Alexandre Ramagem, and against deputy Gustavo Gayer, stating that he was assisted both times by Motta.
