The president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP), stated, this Monday (24), that the House will follow the procedure established by the Constitution to analyze the nomination of the Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, to the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
The demonstration occurred in response to Messias, who earlier released one addressed to the president of the Senate. Alcolumbre defended the name of senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG) to fill the vacancy left by Luís Roberto Barroso in the Court.
“The president of the Federal Senate, , takes note, with institutional respect, of the public demonstration of the nominee for the Federal Supreme Court”, says the text signed by the press office of the presidency of the House.

“It reaffirms that the Federal Senate will fulfill, with absolute normality, the prerogative granted to it by the Constitution: conduct the hearing, analyze and deliberate on the nomination made by the President of the Republic”, states the note.
The text also states that the analysis of the nomination made by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva will take place at an opportune moment, “so that each senator can properly assess the nomination and freely express their vote”.
This Monday, the AGU said that it will seek out each of the senators to listen “carefully to their concerns about the Justice of our Country” and present their perspectives that they should take to the Supreme Court, if approved, “to act there in defense of our Federal Constitution”.
“Beginning the first week after my nomination, I feel obliged to address the president of the Federal Senate, Senator Davi Alcolumbre, to offer myself to his constitutional scrutiny”, said Messias in the note. “I also do so to recognize and praise the important role that President Alcolumbre has played as a member of the House, which he now presides over for the second time, acting as an authentic leader of the National Congress, attentive to high decision-making processes, in favor of our Country.”
