Brazil, who qualified with a victory over Greece in the World Group playoffs, has a positive record against Canada
In a draw held this Sunday morning (23), in Bologna, in 2026, the team met its first opponent in the Davis Cup 2026. Captain Jaime Oncins’ team will face a quarry, the champion of the traditional tennis selection tournament in 2022. The games will be held in Canada, in a location and surface chosen by the home team, on the 6th and 7th or 7th and 8th of February 2026.
Brazil, which qualified with a triumph over Greece in the World Group playoffs, has a positive record against the Canadians. There were four victories in six duels for Davis, but the last meeting took place 18 years ago, at Zonal Americano, when the star of the Brazilian team, João Fonseca, had barely reached his first birthday.
While the green and yellow team should be ranked number 24 by the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), the Canadians have three names in the Top 50: Felix Auger-Aliassime, number 5 in the world, Denis Shapovalov, 23rd, and Gabriel Diallo, 41st. Liam Draxl (ranked 123rd) and Alexis Galarneau (203rd) have also played singles matches in the last two years.
The opponent of the winner of the first round match will be eliminated from the match between Slovakia. If the Brazilians qualify for the second round, they must face the French at home or the Slovaks as visitors, in September. Whoever advances from this second round advances to the final phase, which will be held in Italy in November.
Italy, host of Final 8, will enter the dispute only in the quarter-finals, while Spain, finalist in the current edition of the Davis Cup, precisely against the Italians, will await the winner of Chile and Serbia, already guaranteed in the second round of qualifying.
