The PSP dismantled a group in Espinho suspected of committing the theft and subsequent dismantling of vehicles, as part of an operation that resulted in the arrest of eight men aged between 20 and 39. The action took place following an investigation related to crimes of theft from motor vehicles, which led to the execution of 21 search and seizure warrants, both at home and in other locations.
During the operation, authorities recovered two stolen vehicles and several parts from other stolen vehicles, as well as tools used for dismantling. Five vehicles used by the suspects in illicit activities, a firearm, an alarm weapon, a taser, an extendable baton, a brass knuckle, around 716 doses of drugs and 4,840 euros in cash were also seized.
During the searches, a 26-year-old woman was also arrested for offenses against physical integrity, following an altercation related to police intervention.
According to the PSP, this operation allowed not only to stop the perpetrators of several thefts, but also to identify the place where the vehicles were dismantled and workshops that received and stored parts of illicit origin. The police emphasize that the action represents an important step in the fight against car crime, taking into account the significant damage caused to victims in recent months.
The detainees will be presented to the Porto Criminal Instruction Court for the first interrogation and application of possible coercive measures.
