Rains in Malaysia cause flooding and affect more than 11 thousand people

More than 11,000 people in seven Malaysian states have been affected by flooding caused by torrential rain, the country’s national disaster management agency said on Monday (24).

Images released by APM Tumpat, Malaysia’s rescue agency, show rescuers rushing to extract a flood victim from a house surrounded by water in the town of Tumpat.

Tumpat, a district in the northeastern state of Kelantan, which borders Thailand, is among the affected areas. Kelantan was the worst-hit state with 8,228 people affected.

There are no reports of deaths, according to Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency.

Floods are common on Malaysia’s east coast during the annual monsoon season from October to March, leaving thousands of people homeless every year.
