In a publication in X (formerly), the emedebista showed solidarity with the former president and stated that Bolsonaro “is going through this whole situation with poor health and, even so, always fulfilling his obligations, including with the Courts”.
This was one of the points listed by the minister, of the (Supreme Federal Court), when decreeing the preventive detention of the former president. The decision also mentions a vigil called by the senator (PL-RJ), his son, in front of the condominium where his father was under house arrest.
For the mayor of São Paulo, “holding a vigil cannot be a reason for such a drastic measure.”
“Federal Police agents monitor the door of his house 24 hours a day, which makes any argument for an escape attempt seem fragile. Let us pray,” he wrote.
Bolsonaro was arrested around 6am, when PF agents arrived at his residence in a convoy with at least five cars. He was taken approximately 20 minutes later to the PF Superintendence, where he will be detained.
In the decision to decree arrest, Moraes also cited the cases of federal deputies who left the country amid PF investigations. He stated that the parliamentarians “used the strategy of evasion of national territory with the aim of avoiding the application of criminal law”.
The former president’s defense declared that it had received the measure and said in a note distributed at the end of the morning that it will “present the appropriate resources”
The demonstration by the mayor of São Paulo joins that of allies of the former president who criticized the decision hours after Bolsonaro was arrested.
Earlier, the governor () declared that Bolsonaro is innocent and that prison violates human dignity. According to the governor, the former president “has faced all attacks and injustices with the firmness and courage of few.”
The pastor also criticized the decision and associated the court order with an alleged attempt to divert public attention from.
“This guy is more Machiavellian than you think, he is diverting the focus from the Master bank robbery,” said the pastor in a video released the morning Bolsonaro was arrested.
