Series B: Coritiba, Athletico-PR, Chapecoense and Remo move up – 11/23/2025 – Sport

Remo will return to compete in Series A of the Brazilian Championship after 31 years. The team beat Goiás 3-1 this Sunday (24) and gained access to the division they haven’t competed in since 1994. The goals came from Pedro Rocha — top scorer in Series B, with 15 goals — and João Pedro, who scored twice. Willlean Lepo scored the visitors’ goal.

In more than three decades away from the football elite, the team even competed in Series D, the last in national football. Furthermore, it saw its main rival, Paysandu, reach the Libertadores in 2003.

Remo, who hadn’t won in three games, reached the final round of Series B in sixth place, with 59 points. In addition to the victory, Chapecoense or Criciúma needed to lose to move up. And the second was defeated by Cuiabá 1-0, in Mato Grosso.

The North has not had a representative in Série A since 2005, when Paysandu was relegated.

Thus, Remo, coached by Guto Ferreira, surpassed Goiás and Criciúma and rose to fourth place, with 62 points. Goiás, who only needed victory to move up, finished the tournament with 61, the same score as Criciúma, who only needed a draw to qualify.

Coritiba, Athletico-PR and Chapecoense also rose. The clubs occupied, in this order, the top three positions in Series B, with 68, 65 and 62 points, respectively.

Champion, Coritiba reached the last round of the tournament with guaranteed access. Even so, they beat Amazonas 2-1, away from home.

Its great rival, Atletico-PR, finished runner-up. This Saturday, the team beat América-MG 1-0. The team reached the final match of the tournament with access virtually confirmed. He would only be left without the vacancy with an unlikely combination of results.

Chapecoense reached the last round in fifth, beat Atlético-GO 1-0 and benefited from the defeats of Goiás and Criciúma to gain two positions and move up to third.

Third and fourth placed before the round, Criciúma and Goiás did not gain access, taking fifth and sixth position, respectively.

In seventh was Novorizontino, with 60 points. The team from the interior of São Paulo was very close to reaching Série A for the third time in a row. In 2023, it did not increase by one point; last year, by the number of victories, and now, by two points.

At the other end of the table, they fell to Série C Ferroviária (41 points), Amazonas (36), Volta Redonda (36) and Paysandu (29). The last three were already relegated before the start of the round, and the Araraquara team drew 1-1 with Operário, without being able to overcome Botafogo-SP, the first club outside the relegation zone, which also drew 0-0 with Avaí, and ended up with 42 points.

These four clubs will be replaced in the 2026 Series B by Ponte Preta, Londrina, São Bernardo and Náutico, who moved up from Series C.
