The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, said on Monday at the summit of the Crimean Platform in Sweden that it is unacceptable for Ukraine that other states officially recognize the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia. Kyiv also rejects any limitations on its defense and future alliances. On Monday, the British station BBC reported about it, writes TASR.
- The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Stefanchuk, refuses to recognize the Russian occupied territories.
- Kyiv does not impose restrictions on defense or future international alliances.
- Ukraine emphasizes the necessity of membership in the EU and NATO for security.
- Sweden does not recognize the annexation of Crimea and demands the immutability of Ukraine’s borders.
- The peace plan requires guarantees against further Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Ukraine has been declaring these positions for a long time, but according to Reuters, they contradict the proposals contained in the US plan to end the war presented to Kyiv last week. In his speech in Stockholm, Stefanchuk emphasized that Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO must be part of its security guarantees and any peace plan.
Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard declared at the meeting that in order to achieve lasting peace in Ukraine, the borders cannot be changed by force and it is not possible to limit the Ukrainian armed forces in a way, which could provoke further Russian aggression. She also emphasized that the sovereign rights of Ukrainians cannot be restricted, which also includes decisions about Ukraine’s future, including its path to the European Union.
According to Stenergard, Sweden does not and will not recognize Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea or any other part of Ukrainian territory.
