Two tourists of Argentine nationality were successfully rescued in the mountainous areas of the island of Madeira, after getting lost during a hike, as reported by the PSP Regional Command.
The operation was conducted by the PSP Search, Rescue, Relief and Mountain Rescue Brigade, in coordination with the Forest Police Corps, and took place in the highest areas of the municipality of São Vicente. The intervention lasted approximately two hours.
The couple was following a trail between Levada da Fajã do Rodrigues and Levada do Norte when they ended up deviating from the correct route, incorrectly interpreting a marking on the ground. As night fell and there was visible difficulty in finding their way back, they decided to immediately contact the authorities.
The request for assistance was forwarded through the Regional Civil Protection Service, allowing a quick response on the ground. The teams located the tourists and took them safely to the Ginjas Business Park.
