Erdogan discussed diplomatic steps to promote peace between Russia and Ukraine with Putin. Turkey is ready to host negotiations and contribute to ending the conflict.
In a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated that Turkey is ready, as in the past, to contribute to all diplomatic initiatives and plans that will facilitate direct contact between Russia and Ukraine and contribute to lasting peace in the region. TASR informs about it according to TASS and Anadolu agencies.
“Erdogan expressed his intention to provide all possible assistance in the negotiations and his willingness to once again offer Istanbul as a platform for these purposes,” the Kremlin statement said.
Intensification of contacts
The presidents of both states agreed to intensify contacts regarding Ukraine at various levels. Erdogan declared that Turkey will continue its efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine with a just and lasting peace.
Turkey hosted three rounds of direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine this year. These talks did not bring any breakthrough and the parties only agreed on the exchange of prisoners of war.
