  • Discussions in Geneva brought progress in aligning positions.
  • The agreement must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and ensure a just peace.
  • The negotiations include strengthened security guarantees and interests of Ukraine.
  • Presidents Zelensky and Trump will decide on the final adjustments to the plan.

Representatives of Ukraine and the United States held constructive and very productive negotiations in Geneva on Sunday. Their result is the development of an updated version of the peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. This was stated in a joint statement released by the White House. According to him, the representatives also emphasized that any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and ensure a lasting and just peace. TASR informs about it.

“Discussions have shown significant progress in aligning positions and identifying clear next steps,” it is written in the text of the statement. According to him, American and Ukrainian officials have agreed that they will work intensively on joint proposals in the coming days and that they will remain in close contact with European officials during this process.

According to the White House, the final decisions regarding the modified and refined peace framework will be made by the presidents of the USA and Ukraine, Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky. Earlier on Sunday, Reuters and CBS News reported that Zelensky could visit the USA this week.

According to Reuters, the White House in a separate statement, which was not published by the Ukrainian side, stated that the new form of the peace plan includes strengthened security guarantees and, according to the Ukrainian delegation, also “reflects the national interests” of their country. According to the agency, Kyiv did not immediately comment on this.

The representatives of Ukraine and the USA in Geneva confirmed that they are ready to continue cooperation with the aim of ensuring peace that will guarantee the security, stability and reconstruction of Ukraine. The Ukrainian delegation, according to the joint statement, as well “reiterated her gratitude for the unwavering commitment of the United States and President Donald Trump personally for their tireless efforts to end the war and the loss of human life”the White House added.

Among other things, the original version of the US peace plan released by the media this week calls for Ukraine to cede all of Donbas to Russia, pledge to keep its army to a maximum of 600,000 and never join NATO.

A statement released by the White House, according to AFP, seems to indicate that some changes have been made to the proposal. These were demanded by Kyiv, as the plan contained several uncompromising demands of Moscow, the French agency noted.
