Zelenskyy promises compromises that will strengthen Ukraine: However, the agreement must fully respect the sovereignty of the state

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Monday in an online speech before the parliamentary summit of the Crimean Platform in Stockholm declared that Ukraine will continue to work with its partners to find compromises in the proposed peace planwhich would strengthen Ukraine, not weaken it. At the same forum, the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, Ruslan Stefanchuk, listed Ukrainian red lines and declared that Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO must be part of the peace plan. TASR informs about it according to the Reuters agency.

  • President Zelenskyi promised to continue the search for strengthening compromises for Ukraine.
  • Membership in the EU and NATO is a necessary condition for the Ukrainian peace plan.
  • According to Ukraine, Russia is responsible for the war and must pay for it.
  • The United States and Ukraine are discussing adjustments to the peace plan.
  • The future peace agreement must respect sovereignty and justice for Ukraine.

In a speech, the Ukrainian head of state described Russia as an aggressor who must pay for starting the war. According to him, the decision on the use of frozen Russian assets will be key in this regard.

In his speech, Stefančuk listed three red lines that Kyiv will not cross. According to him, he will not agree to the formal recognition of the occupied territories as Russian, the limitation of his armed forces or restrictions on Ukraine’s entry into alliances. According to him, Ukraine’s membership in NATO should be part of the peace plan.

On Sunday in Geneva, representatives of Ukraine and the United States worked out an updated version of the peace plan to end the war as part of the negotiations. This was stated in a joint statement released by the White House. Representatives of both countries emphasized that any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and ensure a lasting and just peace.

The original version of the draft of the US peace plan, which was published by the media last week, assumes, among other things, that Ukraine cedes all of Donbas to Russia, pledges that its army will have no more than 600,000 soldiers, and will never join NATO.

According to Reuters, talks between the United States and Ukraine will continue on Monday. It is not yet clear how the revised version of the peace plan addresses the entire set of issues, such as territory or security guarantees for Ukraine.
