20-year-old student dies after sudden illness during nightclub party

The Civil Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Paulo Victor Maciel Amora Fernandes, aged 20, who fell ill and died in the early hours of Sunday (23) inside a concert hall in the center of Fortaleza. According to the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS), the young man did not survive after suffering a sudden illness inside the establishment.

Teams from the Forensic Expertise of the State of Ceará (Pefoce) were at the scene and collected the first information that will support the report, which will define the cause of death. The case is being handled by the 34th Police District Police Station.

Paulo Victor was a Social Work student at the State University of Ceará (Uece) and lived in the Jardim Guanabara neighborhood.

The management of Fuzuê Club, where the young man was, released a statement regretting what happened and stating that they provided immediate assistance. The establishment highlighted following security protocols, including personal searches and prohibition of illicit substances. According to the note, brigade members and security guards attended to the young man as soon as he fell ill, while Samu was called and arrived quickly. The music venue also said it was collaborating with the authorities, providing images and documents to assist the investigation.

Friends and family paid tribute on social media, sharing photos and farewell messages. The Uece Academic Social Service Athletic Association also published records of Paulo Victor during the course. The wake took place on Sunday afternoon (23), in Parangaba, followed by mass and burial on Monday morning (24).
