BNDESPar invests R$85.8 million in subscription to shares in biomethane company Bioo

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) announced that it had approved a direct investment of R$85.8 million via subscription to shares in the biomethane company Bioo Investimentos e Participações SA, through BNDES Participações SA (BNDESPar). According to the development bank, the amount invested will result in a 19.9% stake in Bioo’s share capital.

The investment will occur in conjunction with an additional contribution from the manager specializing in climate investments Flying Rivers Capital, created from eB Capital’s climate vertical. The resources will be used for investments foreseen in the Business Plan, which foresees the development of two new Integrated Waste Treatment Plants (CTIR), “in regions with high availability of waste and growing demand for renewable energy and sustainable inputs”, pointed out the development bank.

Headquartered in Porto Alegre and factory in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul, Bioo identifies itself as a biosolutions platform, which receives and treats agro-industrial organic waste, converting it into biomethane, food-grade biogenic CO2 and biofertilizer.

Bioo is a pioneering biosolutions platform designed and developed in partnership by Flying Rivers Capital – a manager specializing in climate investments created from eB Capital – and Sebigas Cótica, a company specialized in the development of environmental waste treatment and biogas generation businesses, with the aim of transforming organic waste from agribusiness into high-value bioproducts.

“With this investment, BNDES contributes to a fair ecological transition by promoting a more sustainable disposal of waste. Each company’s biomethane plant will be able to reduce CO2 emissions in a volume equivalent to that generated by the annual energy consumption of up to 20 thousand homes”, said the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, in a press release.

According to Bioo’s CEO, Maurício Cótica, the capitalization will allow the model used at the Triunfo factory to be replicated in other regions of the country, which came into operation in the second half of 2025 and supplies biomethane to Sulgás under a long-term contract.
