Does the US prioritize Russia’s interests over Ukraine’s? White House spokeswoman openly

The White House rejected on Monday the criticism that it earned even from Republicans that US President Donald Trump prioritizes Russia’s interests in efforts to end the war in Ukraine. Washington also announced that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Trump will not meet this week to finalize the US peace plan. TASR informs about it according to the reports of the AFP and Reuters agencies.

  • The White House rejected criticism of prioritizing Russian interests in the war in Ukraine.
  • President Zelensky and Donald Trump will not meet this week.
  • The spokeswoman confirmed progress in reaching a peace agreement between the parties.
  • The Geneva negotiations reduced the American peace plan to 19 points.
  • Sensitive issues of the peace plan remain for the decision of the presidents.

“The notion that the United States of America is not working equally with both sides in this war to end it is absolutely false.” White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters. According to her, Trump is “hopeful and optimistic” that a peace agreement will be reached and that differences of opinion have already narrowed.

Reuters reports that a spokeswoman on the Fox News show, however, said that Zelensky and Trump will not meet this week to finalize the US peace plan. There are only “a few points where they disagree” between the US and Ukraine, Leavitt said. Sources had earlier told Reuters that Zelensky could travel to the United States this week to discuss sensitive aspects of the plan to end the war with Trump.

In Geneva, Switzerland, on Sunday, the Ukrainian delegation held talks with representatives of Britain, France, Germany, Italy and EU institutions and representatives of the United States about the American peace plan. The Financial Times reported on Monday that the plan had been reduced from 28 to 19 points during talks in Geneva. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Serhiy Kyslytia, who was a member of the delegation, said that the most politically sensitive questions and controversial points – including territorial issues and relations of NATO, Russia and the USA – the negotiators left to the decision of the presidents of both countries: Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky.
