The president of the Central Bank, Gabriel Galípolo, stated this Tuesday, 25th, that he sees confusion about what the authority’s duties are in cases that progress to criminal investigations, such as the recent ones.
He emphasized that the authority identifies whether there are irregularities in an operation and, based on this, its legal obligation is to inform the Public Ministry, so that the entity can follow its investigative process.
Galípolo cited as an example a news item published during Operation Hidden Carbon, which highlighted that the president of the BC traveled abroad to participate in a conference on the day of the operation.

“It reveals an expectation of whoever wrote that, that the president of the Central Bank had a machine gun in his hand, kicking in a door to invade an institution. It is not the role of the Central Bank, the Central Bank does not do that”, stated the president of the BC.
The statement was made during a public hearing at the Senate’s Economic Affairs Committee (CAE).
