Six months after the end of the flow of in the central region of the capital of São Paulo, the government of has a pilot project in hand for drug addicts. The studied possibility, considered a “new exit door” for drug users who want to receive treatment, is called EcoVila.
The column had access to the project document, which details EcoVila as a “sustainable community of social interest, focusing on ecosystem regeneration through responsible consumption, planting for organic food production and reforestation.”
The idea is to use land in Santa Rita do Passa Quatro, in the interior of the State, to build 10 acres and 56 houses, taking 50 families in vulnerable situations, especially drug addicts, to the location. There, residents will have “workshops and training courses, sharing and planning meetings, space and activities for prayer, culture and leisure” and will also produce food for community time and agroforestry.
The movement began in 2023, at the beginning of the governor of São Paulo’s term, . At the time, the model was called .
There is still no definitive deadline for the project to begin, as it is in the study phase and depends on other stages. The pilot is carried out in partnership with a private institution, Associação Lar São Francisco de Assis na Providência de Deus. As a first step, the state government is expanding and renovating the hospital run by the entity that is located on the same land, which today already receives drug users in rehabilitation. Therefore, the procedures for implementing EcoVilas are underway, with no date yet for the start of services.
According to a management source, the intention is to create “another exit door” for drug addicts, which can “serve the entire population of the state”. The initial project was even presented at the in Belém.
The implementation of EcoVila is also expected in the capital of São Paulo, the location of the former Cracolândia flow. Progress has been monitored by the Working Group on the subject, which brings together state and municipal management. Once in operation, São Paulo city hall must also maintain a flow of sending interested parties there.
