French President says it would be a mistake to show weakness in the face of the strategic confrontation that Moscow is waging with Europe

The French President warned this Tuesday that Russia is one of the main threats to the countries of the European Union and NATO, and that it would be a mistake to show weakness in the face of the strategic confrontation that Moscow is waging with Europe.

“Russia is waging a strategic confrontation with the Europeans (…). It would be a mistake to be weak in the face of this threat”, said Macron in an interview with RTL radio, hours before a video conference meeting of members of the so-called Coalition of the Willing, created in March 2025 to support Ukraine.

According to the French leader, Russia is waging a “hybrid war” on European territory and France must “prepare for the possibility of a major high-intensity confrontation in Europe’s neighborhood between 2027 and 2030, in parallel with a massive increase in hybrid attacks on its territory”.

In the interview, Emmanuel Macron also stated that it is “up to the Europeans to decide” how to use frozen Russian assets, which Donald Trump proposes to invest in projects led by the United States to rebuild Ukraine.

“The Europeans are the only ones who have a say (…) about what will be done with the frozen Russian assets that are in the possession of the Europeans,” he said.
