President of the INSS CPMI, senator Carlos Viana (Podemos-MG), states that he will guide the vote on the request to summon the AGU minister, Jorge Messias, nominated for the vacancy on the STF

The president of the Joint Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPMI) of the National Social Security Institute (), senator (Podemos-MG), stated, in the early hours of this Tuesday (25), in his profile on

According to the senator, the vote will be included on the agenda for Thursday (27). “Parliamentarians will have the opportunity to vote for or against,” he said. “In matters involving the public interest, the truth always finds its way, and Parliament exists to allow it to emerge.”

Messias came into the sights of the INSS CPMI at the worst possible moment for him. About to have his name considered by the , the head of the AGU needs to seek votes among senators to have the nomination to the STF confirmed. Before the commission was installed, the minister even stated that the CPMI could hinder the compensation of victims of the illegal associative discount scheme.

“I only have one concern, because we are in a hurry to build a legal model and return resources to retirees and pensioners. I worry whether a CPMI, at this moment, cannot hinder this process of returning resources to retirees and pensioners”, he said, during his participation in the program “Good Morning, Minister”, on May 20.

In September – one month after the installation of the CPMI – deputies and senators approved an invitation for Messias to give testimony. The justification was to hear him about the interinstitutional agreement drawn up by the government to compensate injured retirees and pensioners.

Pressure for him to appear was reactivated after the Estadão reveal that an AGU team had already mapped illegal associative discounts in 2024 and identified suspicions against an entity whose vice-president is the president’s brother Luiz Inácio da Silva.

Messias was the main target of criticism and demands at the last CPMI meeting. The commission’s rapporteur, deputy (União Brasil-AL), stated that the collegiate has the obligation to take a statement from the minister. “I believe that we have an obligation to invite or summon Mr. Messias to give testimony to this commission under penalty of our malfeasance,” he said.
