Russia reviewed a version of the US plan to achieve peace in Ukraine, but there were no discussions about it. According to the British station BBC, this was stated on Monday by Yuri Ushakov, adviser to the Russian president for foreign policy.
The BBC pointed out that it is not clear what wording of the American peace plan is available to Moscow. Late last week, several media outlets published the 28-point plan that the US and Ukraine negotiated over the weekend in Geneva.
“We have received a proposal which is being discussed” and which “will naturally be subject to revision and modification, as on our side, most likely on the Ukrainian side as well as on the American and European side,” Ušakov told reporters.
According to him, the version of the peace plan, reviewed in Moscow, “in accordance with the agreements reached in Alaska” during the meeting of the presidents of the US and Russia – Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. Ushakov added that many provisions of the American plan are acceptable to Russia, but not all.
Putin’s adviser also commented the “European plan” to end the war in Ukraine, which, however, according to him, is “at first glance completely unconstructive and does not suit us.”
Several American newspapers reported on Monday that the American draft plan to restore peace in Ukraine was discussed in Geneva reduced from the original 28 to 19 points. The sources of the journals did not say which points were removed.
The Washington Post wrote that the final set of proposals in the plan to end the war in Ukraine is still subject to change. According to the newspaper’s source, the plan was developed by the US. The cited source described the European counter-proposals as useful.
According to Bloomberg, by late Sunday evening, the plan had been narrowed down to a more concise list of key points that would allow a ceasefire to be reached as quickly as possible. An agency source said that issues excluded from the document at the initial stage will be addressed later.
The latest version of the document already he does not mention the use of frozen Russian assets for the Ukrainian reconstruction process, which was originally planned to be led by the US. Territorial issues will likely be discussed at the meeting between Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Donald Trump, Ihor Brusilo, deputy head of the office of the President of Ukraine, told Bloomberg.
Ukrainian news website Suspilne, citing White House sources, reports that the meeting between the American and Ukrainian presidents is not scheduled for this week.
