Florestania, a concept that has marked Acre’s thought in recent decades, returns to the public debate with a new study proposal. Writer and journalist Antonio Alves will lead the “Conversas de Florestania” cycle, a series of online meetings that seek to reflect on the way people insert themselves — and belong — to the Amazonian environment.
The program takes place from December 8th to 12th, with daily meetings from 7pm to 8:30pm, in a completely virtual format. The initiative aims to bring together those interested in topics such as ways of life in the Amazon, culture, territorial belonging and the symbolic relationship between society and the forest.

Publicity for the course generated rapid engagement on social media. Among the comments, participants highlighted the opportunity to revisit the concept from new perspectives and highlighted Antonio Alves’ contribution to Acre’s intellectual production.
According to the organization, the proposal is to create a space for horizontal conversation, where personal experiences, cultural experiences and historical reflections help to understand why the forest is not something to be dominated, but a territory to which one belongs.
