The nighttime drone attack by the Russians on Kyiv claimed two lives

Russia launched a drone attack on Kyiv, hitting buildings and causing fires. Two people died, six were injured. Electricity and water supplies are interrupted in some parts of the city.

Russia launched a drone attack on the Ukrainian capital of Kiev early Tuesday, hitting at least two residential buildings and starting a fire, officials there said. Two people were killed and six were injured in the attacks, TASR reports, according to Reuters and AFP reports.

Air defense units intervened in the vicinity of the Ukrainian capital. Mayor of Kyiv Vitaly Klitschko announced on the Telegram platform that a high-rise building was evacuated after an attack in the Pechersk district in the center of the city. Klitschko also reported on the interruption of electricity and water supplies in several parts of the city.

Photos showing part of the building on fire were posted on unofficial social media channels. The head of the Kyiv military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, said that another high-rise residential building in the district on the opposite bank of the Dnieper river was also hit.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, “a large-scale combined attack by the enemy on energy infrastructure facilities” was underway, AFP writes. “Energy workers will begin to evaluate the consequences and carry out repairs and maintenance as soon as the security situation allows,” the ministry added on Telegram.

Victims in Russia

Ukrainian airstrikes claimed at least three lives in Russia’s Rostov region, local governor Yuriy Slyusar said on Tuesday. “Today’s attack by the enemy caused great sadness – one person was killed in (the city of) Taganrog… doctors were unable to save even two more people who succumbed to injuries in the hospital,” he wrote on Telegram.

The governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratiev, described the night bombing as one of the most intense and extensive attacks in Kyiv.

Energy infrastructure

Reuters reminds that in the past period, as a result of Russian attacks, there have been repeated interruptions in the supply of electricity and heat in some parts of Ukraine. Kiev has also stepped up drone strikes deep in the Russian interior, targeting oil refineries, warehouses and pipelines.
