According to the ideal scenario of the emerging coalition, the vote of confidence in the new Czech government could be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament in the second week of January. This was said on Tuesday by the Speaker of the Chamber, Tomio Okamura. The parties of the forming government want it to be appointed by mid-December so that the leader of the ANO movement Andrej Babiš can go to the next EU summit on December 18 and 19 as prime minister, reports the TASR reporter in Prague.
- A vote of confidence in the government would be held in January.
- The government should be appointed by mid-December.
- The president is planning meetings with the nominated ministers at the castle.
- Babiš is supposed to resolve the conflict of interests before being appointed prime minister.
- The coalition council will confirm the ministerial nominations at the meeting.
“Today we will formally confirm the nominations of ministers for all parties. Mr. Chairman Babiš will present them to Mr. President this week, then they will be presented to the public,” explained the chairman of the lower house and head of the SPD movement. According to him, the president should gradually invite individual nominees to the castle over the course of the next two weeks.
An ideal scenario
According to Okamura, Babiš should present the solution to his conflict of interests by mid-December. “Subsequently, he should be appointed prime minister and then – and this is already a matter of a few days – a new government should be appointed so that (Babiš) can go to the European Council on December 18 as a representative of the new government. And in the second week of January, there should be a vote of confidence in the government in the Chamber of Deputies… This is the ideal scenario that we as the incoming government coalition imagine,” he added. However, he noted that this expected schedule could change.
It is certain that a meeting of the coalition council of the emerging government will take place on Tuesday evening, at which the parties should confirm the nominations for ministers. This list will be presented to President Petr Pavlov by the chairman of the ANO movement on Wednesday afternoon. The date of the meeting has already been confirmed by Prague Castle. A similar schedule, as Okamura talked about, was previously proposed by the president. However, he pointed out that it depends on Babiš and when he presents a solution to his potential conflict of interests. Without that, Pavel does not want to appoint him as prime minister.
