American envoy Steve Witkoff will visit Moscow next week, the Kremlin confirmed

US President Trump has appointed Steve Witkoff to meet with Russian President Putin to finalize a peace plan to end the war in Ukraine.

Yuri Ushakov, the Russian president’s foreign policy adviser, confirmed on Wednesday morning that the Kremlin and the White House have reached a preliminary agreement on next week’s visit of the US president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and other officials to Moscow. TASR informs about it according to the reports of Reuters, AFP and TASS.

“As for Witkoff, I can announce a preliminary agreement on his visit to Moscow next week,” Ushakov said in an interview with Pavel Zarubin, a reporter for the Russian state television and radio company VGTRK. He added that Witkoff will arrive with several other officials “who deal with Ukrainian affairs.”

Approaching visit

Sending Witkoff to a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow was announced by US President Donald Trump on his social network Truth Social on Tuesday. He added that together they should resolve several remaining differences in the peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner may also attend the meeting.

“In hopes of finalizing this peace plan, I have assigned my special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to meet with President Putin in Moscow,” Trump wrote, adding that “there are only a few points of disagreement left.”

Proceedings in negotiations

Trump then told reporters aboard Air Force One that American negotiators were making progress in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and that Moscow had agreed to make some concessions.
