Hong Kong authorities reported this Wednesday (26) that at least 279 people were missing after a fire spread in a condominium of residential buildings.
In addition, 36 people have died and 29 people remain hospitalized, seven of whom are in critical condition.
The fire could be the deadliest in Hong Kong in nearly three decades.
More than 700 residents of the apartment complex were taken to temporary shelters, Eunice Chan Hau-man, head of the Tai Po district of the Department of Internal Affairs, said at a news conference.
Wang Fuk Court, a public housing complex consisting of 8 towers and nearly 2,000 apartments, is home to nearly 4,000 people.
