Attention Slovaks! SHMÚ announced the highest level of flood warning for two districts

For the Zvolen and Veľký Krtíš districts, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) announced the third level of flood warning from melting snow and rain. There is also a risk of flooding in the districts of Prievidza, Zlaté Moravce, Krupina, Levice and Gelnica, where the second level of warning applies.

In several districts of the Banskobystrické, Košice and Nitra regions, the first level of flood warning has been declared. SHMÚ also warns of heavy rain and snowfall on Wednesday, especially in central Slovakia.

According to the expected development of the weather situation, meteorologists expect the culmination of water levels on the tributaries of the middle Hron (Neresnica, Slatina, Jasenica, Zolná) at the level of the 1st to 3rd degree of flood activity. At the same time, in the tributaries of the middle Ipľ (Krtíš, Stará rieka) they expect water levels to persist at the level of the 2nd to 3rd degree of flood activity. On the main stream of the Ipľa, the 1st level of flood activity may be reached or exceeded on Wednesday or Thursday (November 27).

At the same time, meteorologists issued warnings against rain. Level 2 warnings apply to most of the Banskobystrica region and the districts of Rožňava, Liptovský Mikuláš and Ružomberok. More than 50 mm of precipitation can fall there. First level warnings apply to the districts of Veľký Krtíš, Žarnovica, Žiar nad Hronom, Prievidza, Gelnica, Košice okolie, Spišská Nová Ves, Levice, Poprad, Martin and Turčianske Teplice. More than 35 mm of precipitation can fall there.

Snow warnings are also in effect. Level one warnings apply to almost the entire Žilina region and the districts of Považská Bystrica, Púchov and Poprad. Ten to 20 cm of new snow could fall in places at higher altitudes. Snow tongues and drifts can form at the same time.
