Despair leads two passengers to invade the runway to avoid missing their flight in Germany

Two Romanian citizens invaded a runway at Cologne Airport, Germany, in a desperate attempt to catch the flight to Budapest that was about to depart. The episode occurred last Friday night, when the men, aged 27 and 48, were seen running towards a Wizz Air plane with the engines running and light signals active, indicating that take-off was imminent.

According to authorities, both passed through security checks without any problems, but arrived late for boarding and found the door already closed. Faced with this situation, they ended up improperly accessing the restricted area through an emergency exit, breaking the glass of an alarm button to open a door that gave access to the runway.

It was in this area that they tried to signal the pilot, gesturing insistently, in an apparent attempt to make him stop. The approach to the aircraft was, however, stopped by an airport employee, who managed to prevent the situation from becoming even more dangerous. The two men were later detained by security and handed over to the police.

The authorities guaranteed that, despite the serious infraction, aviation security was not at risk and that there was no real threat. Even so, an investigation was opened for invasion of a restricted area and violation of airport security standards.

The incident did not cause delays in the flight, which ended up arriving at its scheduled destination practically within the stipulated time.
